Use Singapore’s interests as basis for consensus

As Mr Lee Kuan Yew had said, Singapore should not exist; it took tremendous effort from the Old Guard to build the globally relevant Singapore we have today.

Thus, economic performance and global recognition will probably remain key measures for Singapore’s success, without which it would be difficult to sustain our little island.

Besides the hard numbers, while Singaporeans may disagree on various issues, we stand together with Singapore’s interests at heart, as demonstrated recently,

I would like to see us start with Singapore’s interests as a foundation for consensus, before we go into various viewpoints of interest groups. Given our little island, there is only so much room for dissension.

With limited resources, decisions must be made eventually and not everyone gets what they want sometimes. But the decisions should move Singapore forward.
