Ways to promote signalling on the roads

Nowadays, many drivers do not signal when changing lanes or turning, notwithstanding that it is a traffic offence (“Road safety needs a boost”; Aug 11, online).

To alleviate this problem in the short term, there could be a campaign to promote signalling followed by robust enforcement.

In the medium term, the demerit points for this offence could be increased in the driving test. This would nudge instructors to drill into their trainees the importance of signalling.

I hope this problem may then be eliminated in the long term, when these trainees become qualified drivers.
