The rat colony in Bukit Batok is a disgusting sight and raises concerns over safety and health as well as Singapore’s image. How did such a rat infestation go unnoticed for so long?

We now know that people feeding stray dogs ended up leaving food to fester on the mound for the rats. It is as irresponsible as feeding monkeys or leaving water around for mosquitoes to breed.

Just as the authorities take a tough stance with these offenders, we should nip the problem in the bud by taking action against those who leave food for strays without realising the consequences for society.

Singapore will surely be a cleaner, better place.
