Why was National Stadium designed to cost so much?

While organisers of local sports events must foot at least the operating cost, it is not possible for all events to generate income for the National Stadium (“High costs ‘a new reality’ with new National Stadium”; Dec 17).

While organisers of local sports events must foot at least the operating cost, it is not possible for all events to generate income for the National Stadium (“High costs ‘a new reality’ with new National Stadium”; Dec 17).

At the same time, event planners should not expect to use the venue freely and demand unnecessary, prolonged use. Even the National Day Parade committee must be given a budget to spend.

But the key question in this issue is why the stadium was designed to cost so much to manage and maintain in the first place. Was this evaluated before construction went ahead?
