Yaacob Ibrahim did not criticise pro-family groups

When speaking to the media, at no point did Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Yaacob Ibrahim “criticise pro-family groups and consider their expressions of support for a cause or a choice of lifestyle divisive”.
In fact, he had reiterated Islam’s view and support for the institution of family, stressing that this would continue to be encouraged because it is important and enjoined by Islam. However, Dr Yaacob recognised that Singapore is a multicultural, secular society, where differences of opinion and personal choices have to be respected.
Dr Yaacob had been responding to reporters’ questions on the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) advisory to mosques here. It had advised all mosques against getting involved in the crossfire between the Wear White and Pink Dot initiatives to avoid dividing society and the community.
