‘Yes’ to one disability certification

The Handicaps Welfare Association welcomes Mr Peter Lim’s suggestion that “All ministries should accept one certification of disability” (July 24) on any other ministry’s application form that has already been approved.

As every medical certification requires a specialist consultation, such an initiative would eliminate the need for repeated visits to the clinics and reduce the associated cost of each application. However, care must be taken to design the application form to include information on relevant services, and there must be a validity period for such certification.

Voluntary welfare organisations should also adopt this proposal.

It would save the effort, time and money of our disabled members who are inconvenienced in each of their various applications to ministries that require doctors’ certification.
