In Zika fight, don’t neglect places with animals, plants

I agree with the writer’s call, in “Impose more severe penalties for those found to be breeding mosquitoes” (Sept 2), to strengthen checks in our “homes, surroundings and workplaces for mosquito breeding”.

I agree with the writer’s call, in “Impose more severe penalties for those found to be breeding mosquitoes” (Sept 2), to strengthen checks in our “homes, surroundings and workplaces for mosquito breeding”.

Nevertheless, we should not neglect places with animals and plants, such as animal farms, the Singapore Zoo and its safaris, pet shops and floral nurseries, which may also be inviting places for mosquitoes. How are the hygiene practices there?

All corners of the island should be checked, instead of focusing only on the affected areas, and it starts with us. Everyone plays a part in combating this virus outbreak. Prevention is better than cure.

May our animals also be protected before Zika affects them.
