PEMBROKE PINES (Florida) — Authorities say three Florida juveniles have been charged with transmitting child pornography after they created a social media account to solicit and post explicit photos of other minors.

Pembroke Pines police said yesterday (Feb 12) that the Instagram account — with more than 500 followers — led detectives to charge the 12- and 15-year-old boys and the 13-year-old girl with electronic transmission of child pornography.

Police say the trio was posting photos of naked Broward County juveniles to the account and then encouraging their followers to do the same. The postings included the victims’ names and other personal information. Police say that followers of the account harassed victims by posting insulting comments. It wasn’t immediately clear how the suspects obtained the photos.

Police say they began investigating the Instagram account in December. AP
