Mexico police find 6 decapitated bodies in violent south

MEXICO CITY — Mexican police on Monday (Jan 16) made the grisly discovery of six decapitated bodies and the corpses of four other men in the violent southern state of Guerrero, regional authorities said.

The heads were found in a black plastic bag on top of a truck, with the bodies inside the vehicle, in the regional capital of Chilpancingo, Guerrero security spokesman Roberto Alvarez said in a statement.

The bodies of the four men, their hands tied and showing signs of torture, were found in the nearby town of Chilapa, a regional government source told AFP on condition of anonymity because he did not have authorisation to speak to the media.

The crimes were likely the result of a turf war between two cartels known as Los Ardillos and Los Jefes, the source added.

Guerrero is one of the poorest parts of Mexico. In 2015 it had the highest murder rate of any of the country’s states because of gang wars over the trade in opium and marijuana. AFP
