CINCINNATI — Police in Cincinnati say there were "at least a couple of shooters" who opened fire inside a nightclub on Sunday (March 26), killing one person and wounding more than a dozen others.

The shooting took place at Cameo Night Club, the Cincinnati Police Department said on Twitter.

Capt Kim Williams said authorities are not sure what prompted the shooting at the Cameo nightclub. "We are sure there was more than one (shooter), but we're not sure if there was more than two at this point," she said.

She said the crowd there is often very young on Saturday nights, and they have had trouble in the past, but "this is the worst by far".'

By the time … the shots were fired, individuals ran outside, so there was not a lot of people inside the club. I believe there was a large crowd earlier this evening, but just a lot of chaos when the shots went off," she said.

Several of the wounded had life-threatening injuries, TV station WLWT-TV reported on its website, quoting Assistant Police Chief Paul Neudigate.

“We are in the middle of a very horrific situation that occurred at the nightclub with multiple victims,” Mr Neudigate said. “It’s going to be a long night for our homicide units to investigate.”

Hundreds of people were in the nightclub at the time of shooting, Mr Neudigate added.

Cincinnati Police Sgt Eric Franz told CNN that several people were in surgery, and added that the police did not have any suspects in custody.

He told the news networkd that the motive was unclear, however, there was no reason to suspect terrorism at this point.

According to CNN, Mr Neudigate had called it a “chaotic crime scene” and said they were looking for witnesses, many of whom took off when the shooting started. AGENCIES
