KULAI JAYA (Johor) — Two wanted men were arrested after a dramatic high-speed chase involving 10 police cars and one patrol motorcycle in Johor on Tuesday (March 28).

The duo, aged 22 and 26, were nabbed after their stolen Proton Wira crashed into a police patrol car and motorcycle at the Saleng intersection at 5.15am.

It was learnt the policemen had to use force to subdue the suspects after they refused to surrender and had acted aggressively after the crash.

The chase started at 4.25am at a petrol station in Saleng, where two police patrol cars were conducting a routine check on the suspects’ car.

The suspects sped off after being confronted by the policemen and this led to a 35km chase.

The pursuit headed towards the Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru, where the suspects managed to make a U-turn and continued north-bound towards Skudai.

Johor Criminal Investigations Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Kamarul Zaman Mamat said mobile units from the Johor Baru Utara district police provided assistance upon receiving an All-Points Bulletin (APB) on the pursuit from Skudai.

“The suspects drove dangerously and in an aggressive manner upon entering Kulaijaya towards the Saleng intersection,” Mr Kamarul said.

“However, their car crashed into one of the police cars that was attempting to cut off the suspects’ vehicle.”

Mr Kamarul said no policemen were injured during the chase.

“The suspects are in custody and the case is being investigated for attempted murder and driving in a reckless manner,” he said. “We are also looking into their criminal records as one of them has a string of convictions.”

According to a police source, the 22-year-old suspect has seven criminal records, while the other has 11.

It was learnt the car used by the suspects was reported stolen in Kluang, and bore a false registration number plate.

Earlier this month, on March 19, a driver mowed down a policeman on the Pasir Gudang Highway after a high-speed car chase which ended in Taman Johor Jaya. MALAY MAIL ONLINE
