PUTRAJAYA — 1Malaysia Development Berhad’s (1MDB) contributions to the people have been overshadowed by the negative perceptions created by social media, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Najib Razak said today (July 31).

“When people attack 1MDB, it is as though there were no good contributions that have come from it. The good has been plenty,” he said at the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque, addressing recipients of a haj pilgrimage sponsorship by Yayasan 1MDB.

Mr Najib added that the haj sponsorship programme helped over 3,000 people perform their pilgrimage, and that 1MDB programmes have helped poor fishermen and school-going children but such programmes were never talked about by people.

He said such negative perceptions formed by “quick fingers” on social media had even forced Tabung Haji to sell off the Tun Razak Exchange TRX land purchased from 1MDB.

“It was said that Tabung Haji’s deposit was to save 1MDB. It was slander (fitnah) that spread far and wide in a blink of an eye,” he said.

“But after time passed, the reality proved otherwise. The truth was that Tabung Haji was making an investment.” MALAY MAIL ONLINE
