JOHOR BARU —  Doctors at the Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Baru are closely monitoring a blood clot on the left shoulder of an 11-year-old boy who had his legs amputated following alleged beatings by an assistant warden at his school's hostel.

He had been hospitalised after severe bouts of pain which occured days after he had been allegedly beaten by the assistant warden at his religious school hostel in Kota Tinggi.

The boy’s aunt Nurul Nabila Ahmad, 30, said on Monday (April 24) that signs of blood clots on his left shoulder starting showing at 6pm on Sunday.

She added that doctors had given the boy, Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gadaffi, some blood-thinning medication on Sunday.

The boy’s right arm reportedly turned black due to a bacterial infection, but was slowly returning to its natural colour. More tests have been conducted on his right arm, which was infected from his fingers to his elbow.

His infection had also caused damage to his kidneys.

Medication given to treat the arm needs 48 hours to fully take effect, and the results will only be known by 6am on Tuesday, media reported.

Police have said that the boy and 14 others of his schoolmates were allegedly beaten with a water hose by the assistant warden on March 24 supposedly because they had made noise in the school surau.

His mother, Felda Wani Ahmad, 40, only made the discovery when Thaqif had begged to leave the hostel to return home.

Thaqif was admitted to the Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Baru on April 19, before both of his legs were amputated on Friday.

Police obtained a four-day remand order on the 29-year-old suspect, who has a criminal record for theft and had served a 30-month jail term in the past. AGENCIES
