Anwar discharged from hospital, back to prison
KUALA LUMPUR — Anwar Ibrahim returned to prison yesterday (July 12), less than a week after he was hospitalised amid reports of deteriorating health.

KUALA LUMPUR — Anwar Ibrahim returned to prison yesterday (July 12), less than a week after he was hospitalised amid reports of deteriorating health.
A short statement by his office today said the former opposition leader was transferred back to the Sungai Buloh Prison at 7.45pm yesterday.
“DSAI thanked the specialist doctors and other hospital staff for their assistance and treatment,” it said, using the initials for Anwar.
Anwar, serving a 5-year jail term after the Federal Court on February 10 rejected his appeal against a sodomy conviction, was brought to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on July 7.
The 67-year-old is said to have lost 6kg in prison, has irregular blood pressure, a 4cm growth on the kidney, gastritis, chronic arthritis and a shoulder muscle tear.
Anwar’s lawyer R Sivarasa and rights group Freedom Now had last month urged Putrayaja to allow the PKR de facto leader to be placed under house arrest instead, so that he could have access to regular medical care.
“Anwar is being held in solitary confinement in a bare cell, having a bucket for bathing, a squat toilet, and being held in hot and humid conditions with minimal ventilation. These are exacerbating his health problems,” a joint statement by Mr Sivarasa and Freedom Now’s lawyer Jared Genser said on June 30. THE MALAYSIAN INSIDER
