KUALA LUMPUR — Seeking to catch irresponsible motorists, the Road Transport Department (RTD) in Malaysia is working on a smartphone application that the public can download.

The app will enable anyone to snap and send pictures of motorists who violate traffic laws to the RTD to enable action to be taken, The Star reported on Wednesday (Sept 21).

“We want to encourage more people to snap pictures and send us the evidence,” RTD enforcement director Valluvan Veloo was quoted saying.

Mr Valluvan said that such pictures should not only be limited to only cases of emergency lane misuse but also other offences such as heavily tinted windows or modified vehicles.

He said that 70 per cent of information on cases of emergency lane abuse came from the public, and such cases were dealt with sternly.

Mr Valluvan also cautioned those taking the pictures to mind their own safety. MALAY MAIL ONLINE
