PETALING JAYA, Feb 27 — A trickster who duped her unsuspecting victims returned to the scene of her crime months later to find the table turned on her when residents recognised her and made a citizens’ arrest on Saturday (Feb 25).

Serdang police chief Assistant Commissioner Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias said the suspect from China was believed to be involved in a case that took place in Pusat Bandar Puchong wet market last Merdeka Day.

The 56-year-old suspect returned to the scene of the crime and tried to put a victim under her spell when passers-by spotted her antics.

The suspect was brought to the district police headquarters and authorities are on the lookout for her accomplices.

In the August incident, a 56-year-old woman was at the market when she was approached by the suspect.

The suspect pleaded with the woman saying that she needed transport to send her sick daughter to a friend’s house nearby.

Mr Megat said that moments later, a second woman, believed to be also a Chinese national, came up to the victim and requested help to transport her to a nearby location.

He said the victim felt uneasy and initially rejected to help the suspects as she was worried for her own safety.

“Suddenly, one of the suspects held the victim’s hand and kept on begging for help. The victim then agreed to drive the two suspects to a nearby park, where they met with a third Chinese woman,” Mr Megat said.

Once there, the three woman kept asking the victim if anyone was in her home and then took away her gold necklace and bracelet, as well as a diamond bracelet

“The victim said that when their demands were met, the women disappeared from the scene and left her stranded. She estimated her losses to be around RM10,000 (S$3,160),” Mr Megat said.

The suspects returned to the market on Saturday, and some of the wet-market shoppers recognised one of the suspects and apprehended her.

The suspect who was caught was tied to a tree, and photos of her have went viral on social media. MALAY MAIL ONLINE
