Drug abuse that leads to murder more worrying than beer festival, says Dr Mahathir
KUALA LUMPUR — Muslims should be worried about youth abusing drugs and committing murder instead of fretting over non-Muslims imbibing beer, said former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Tuesday (Oct 10).
KUALA LUMPUR — Muslims should be worried about youth abusing drugs and committing murder instead of fretting over non-Muslims imbibing beer, said former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Tuesday (Oct 10).
On his blog chedet.com Tuesday, Dr Mahathir said it was not his problem if non-Muslims chose to drink until they passed out, as long as they stayed off the roads and did not cause problems for others.
“I was told that many are angry at me for not supporting the protest against the beer festival, or Oktoberfest.
“To me, if non-Muslims choose to drink alcohol or beer until they faint, that’s their problem. The important thing is they do not cause problems for other people or drive a car while drunk.
“What really grieves me is the drug abuse by Muslim children which led to the deaths of 23 people in a tahfiz school when they set fire to the school hostel,” he said.
Yet, said Dr Mahathir, there were those who have accepted the murder of children as “destiny”, and that the children, according to the guru at the tahfiz school, would await the parents at the gates of paradise.
“But for me, the question is, why are there Malay/Muslim children involved in drugs? Why do we not hear about Chinese and Indian children involved in drugs? Is this also destiny? Is there nothing we can do to stop Malay/Muslim children from taking drugs?” THE MALAYSIAN INSIGHT
