BANGKOK — At least 20 people are injured following a bomb blast at a public hospital in the Thai capital on Monday (May 22) morning.
The explosion at the Phramongkutklao Hospital reportedly occured on the first floor room of the Chalermphrakiat building, in a reception room for retired civil servants at about 11am Monday, the same day Thailand marked the third anniversary of a coup d’etat that brought the current military regime to power.
Those injured were hit by broken glass shards from the shattered windows.
Deputy police commissioner Srivara Ransibrahmanakul said evidence of a bomb device was found at the scene.
“It’s confirmed to be a bomb,” Gen. Srivara told reporters. “We must convene a meeting for saying anything further, but at this time, I can confirm it was a bomb.”
Traces of battery and electrical wires were found, said the deputy police chief.
Monday’s incident came just a week after a small bomb went off in front of the National Theatre in Bangkok’s historic quarters, wounding two people. AGENCIES
