First MERS death in S Korea in 8 days

SINGAPORE — South Korea reported its 34th death from Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) today (July 8), Yonhap News Agency reported.

SINGAPORE — South Korea reported its 34th death from Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) today (July 8), Yonhap News Agency reported.

This was the country’s first fatality in eight days.

While there were novnew cases in the country over the past three days, the number of people diagnosed stands at 186, according to the agency.

Of that number, 33 are still in hospital, while 119 were discharged after they recovered, the agency added quoting Ministry of Health and Welfare figures.

Additionally, there are 811 suspected cases currently in isolation.

South Korea’s outbreak of the virus is the largest outside Saudi Arabia.
