Greedy leaders selling out once proud Malays, says Dr Mahathir in poem

KUALA LUMPUR — Dr Mahathir Mohamad penned a poem today (July 13), lamenting how the once proud Malay race is now seemingly willing to be overcome by greed and personal desires.

Titled Malaysia Tanahair-ku, the former prime minister posted the poem on his blog and also touched on the country’s current political situation.

“Dignity being sold, race being sold, nation being sold, everything is being sold for non-permanent benefits, temporary benefits only.”

He said politics that was supposed to save the community has now turned destructive because of greedy leaders eyeing high positions.

Without naming names, he said illegal actions were now condoned and “Allah” was being used and sold for temporary benefits.

He said that greed and lust were used by the elites, so much so that a noble race that had gained independence from their colonial masters is now seen willing to sell their rights, which included to choose good things in life without working for it.

Dr Mahathir who just celebrated his 90th birthday three days ago, wondered if he would see the Malay community and the country as honorable, dignified and highly respected.

He added no one can change for the better unless they change themselves. THE MALAYSIAN INSIDER
