KUALA LUMPUR — Slain deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais was never involved in investigations concerning state-owned 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), Attorney-General (AG) Mohamed Apandi Ali said today (Nov 26).
Mr Apandi rejected an allegation from a brother of Kevin that the latter’s death was tied to a draft charge sheet against a “high-ranking government official”, news portal The Malaysian Insider reported.
“What was claimed by the brother of the late Kevin is preposterous. Kevin was never involved in the 1MDB investigations.
“In fact, when he was transferred back to AG’s Chambers in early July 2014, there was no report in respect of 1MDB yet!” the former federal judge, said to be in Nanning, China, was quoted by the news portal as saying in a text message.
The AG was responding to the claims made yesterday by Kevin’s younger brother Charles Suresh Morais, where the latter had released his statutory declaration (SD) with allegations of a purported conspiracy against the now-deceased brother.
Malay Mail Online has attempted to seek clarification from the AG’s Chambers and the AG, but has yet to receive a response. MALAY MAIL ONLINE
