Malaysia investigating claim that Jho Low holds dual citizenship

KEPALA BATAS — Anyone holding dual citizenship in Malaysia must face the consequences, and preferential treatment will be given to no one — not even financier and tycoon Low Taek Jho, who is embroiled in 1Malaysia Development Berhad-related probes.

Deputy Foreign Minister Reeza Merican Naina Merican made the comments on reports that Mr Low who is Penang-born possesses citizenships in both Malaysia and the Caribbean island state of St Kitts & Nevis, which is not allowed under the Federal Constitution.

“For now, we will wait for the report on Low’s alleged dual citizenships.

“The Home Ministry (is investigating the matter). We will wait for them,” he said.

It was reported that the National Registration Department (NRD) is awaiting Wisma Putra’s feedback on the dual citizenship allegations.

NRD director-general Mohd Yazid Ramli said his department has written to the Foreign Ministry to obtain the relevant information from the Caribbean island state. THE NEW STRAITS TIMES
