TAIPING, Malaysia — A 11-year-old boy was killed while his 12-year-old sister suffered serious injuries after the motorcycle they were riding collided with an ambulance in the town Taiping, in Malaysia's Perak state on Sunday (Oct 29).

During the accident, which took place at 10.30am in the Bukit Gantang area, pillion rider Ahmad Hazim Ahmad Nazir died at the scene after the impact of the accident threw him under the ambulance.

His sister Anira Husna, who was riding the motorcycle, sustained serious injuries.

Both were not wearing helmets.

The 43-year-old ambulance driver and a 31-year-old nurse escaped with light injuries.

Taiping police chief Harrith Kam Abdullah said the ambulance from the Changkat Jering health clinic was believed to be heading to Kampung Senduk, Bukit Gantang to pick up a patient.

"We believe the collision happened when the motorcycle abruptly exited a corner which led to Changkat Ibol," he said.

"The children were on their way to a sundry shop 50m from where the accident occurred. Neither of them were wearing helmets."

A spokesperson for the Perak Fire and Rescue department said Ahmad Hazim was trapped under the ambulance.

"The victim was taken out from under the ambulance by members of the public. He was pronounced dead by the medical team," said the spokesperson.

Officer Harrith said the police were still investigating the actual cause of the accident, adding that the case was classified under section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. THE MALAY MAIL ONLINE
