KUALA LUMPUR — In an apparent jibe aimed at his harshest critic Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Prime Minister Najib Razak said today (April 23) he is not “alone” as many international bodies and institutions have affirmed their belief in Malaysia’s growth and success under his leadership.
“There has been some talk lately in Malaysia about how it can be lonely in telling the truth.
“Well, I can tell you that I don’t feel lonely standing here in front of you today.” the Prime Minister told participants at the Invest Malaysia 2015 event this morning.
“And when so many respected international bodies, individuals, and institutions have confirmed their belief in Malaysia’s success and have honoured us by rating us so highly — I don’t feel lonely at all — in fact I feel in a very good company,” Mr Najib added.
PM Najib’s remarks come days after his deputy — Mr Muhyiddin Yassin said that Dr Mahathir will never be alone in his efforts to speak the truth and to combat injustice at any level.
The deputy prime minister said on Sunday that Dr Mahathir’s trademark has always been speaking his mind and stating his views even if it is against Western “superpowers” and those more powerful than him.
“Telling the truth and standing up… that has been your trademark since you were a young doctor and Umno member.
“You are not alone in telling the truth,” Mr Muhyiddin had said.
Dr Mahathir has openly said he would push for Mr Najib’s resignation citing dissatisfaction with a slew of scandals plaguing the current administration, chiefly on the massive RM42 billion (S$15.6 billion) debt amassed by state investment arm 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB). MALAY MAIL ONLINE
