PETALING JAYA — A baby boy, with his umbilical cord still attached, was found abandoned in a cardboard box near Block D, Flora Damansara apartment on Monday (March 27).

The newborn baby was found by a 17-year-old girl who heard cries while waiting for the elevator at the apartment block at 4pm.

Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din said the girl then took the baby home before contacting her mother who was at work.

“According to the witness, she found the baby in the box near the staircase between the 8th and 9th floor.

“Her mother then alerted the police,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Zani said the baby appeared to be in good health and has been sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for further checks.

“I have instructed my men to check the apartment again to locate baby’s mother and has sent the clothes used to wrap the baby for DNA test.

“We believe the baby’s mother is staying nearby.” he said. NEW STRAITS TIMES
