S'porean in KL uses iPhone finder to nab snatch thief, recover stolen Birkin bag

KUALA LUMPUR — A Singaporean visitor to the Malaysian capital was able to track and detain one of two thieves who had snatched his mother’s Hermes Birkin bag and an iPhone 6, using Apple’s iCloud location service yesterday (Feb 6).

KUALA LUMPUR — A Singaporean visitor to the Malaysian capital was able to track and detain one of two thieves who had snatched his mother’s Hermes Birkin bag and an iPhone 6, using Apple’s iCloud location service yesterday (Feb 6).

According to Dang Wangi police chief Zainol Samah, the Singaporean had been in his car together with his family along Jalan Bukit Bintang when two Malay men riding a motorcycle had smashed the front passenger window and made off with the bag containing the iPhone, together worth an estimated RM45,000 (S$15,230).

“The complainant then used the iPhone tracker and was able to capture one of the suspects, who was at that time carrying the bag belonging to the complainant’s mother,” Mr Zainol said in a statement.

Mr Zainol added that the individual in his twenties was currently remanded for five days to facilitate investigations under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which pertains to gang robbery.

The second suspect is still at large.
