SINGAPORE — A badly damaged item, believed to be a suitcase, has been found on Reunion Island, close to where plane debris was discovered yesterday (July 29), reported local publication Linfo.re.

France’s BEA air crash investigation agency is currently examining debris found on Reunion Island in coordination with Malaysian and Australian authorities,

Linfo.re reported that a municipal employee found the item on a jagged coastline, nearly exactly where the plane debris was found.

“On the spot, police recovered the suitcase for investigations,” it reported.

The finding comes after Malaysian Deputy Transport Minister Abdul Aziz Kaprawi said that it was “almost certain” that a piece of debris, which washed up on Reunion Island yesterday, was from a Boeing 777 aircraft — the same model of Flight MH370, which disappeared in March last year.
