KUALA LUMPUR — “All Malaysians should feel proud of this achievement,” said Prime Minister Najib Razak as Malaysia secured a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

In a video message released today (Oct 17), the Prime Minister said: “Malaysia has a strong record of promoting peace, moderation and security around the world. Our brokering of peace in the southern Philippines is one example. Our election to the Security Council is an endorsement of Malaysia’s foreign policy. We are increasingly being recognised and valued as a global partner for peace and security.

Malaysia is now one of the 15 countries that make up the Security Council. Malaysia was one of five countries elected as a non-permanent member to the council for the 2015/2016 term yesterday, and will now have voting rights on the Security Council.

“With our Security Council seat, Malaysia will promote international peace and security by advancing a Malaysian vision of peace and moderation,” said Mr Najib. “It is a vision that I believe will ensure world peace.” CHANNEL NEWS ASIA
