PERTH — Malaysian frigate KD Lekiu departed Perth’s shores at 5pm today with a helicopter onboard, said the Australian Department of Defence.

With the addition of this ship, there are now 14 vessels assigned to search duties in the search area some 1,700km west of Perth.

Commander of Joint Task Force 658, Commodore Peter Leavy, said the Malaysian maritime contribution was a “welcome addition” to the existing search fleet.

“The contribution of the Malaysian ship’s crew will bring further resources to the difficult task of searching for evidence of the fate of flight MH370,” Commodore Leavy said.
