SINGAPORE — The Duchess of Cambridge plans to resume royal duties later this month after being sidelined by a prolonged bout of severe morning sickness and is set to welcome Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam when he heads to Britain later this month.

Palace officials said yesterday (Oct 10) that Prince William and the former Kate Middleton are scheduled to welcome Dr Tan when he arrives on a four-day state visit on Oct 21.

She had cancelled a number of engagements after her second pregnancy was announced early last month. Officials said at the time she was being treated for acute morning sickness at the family quarters in Kensington Palace.

The condition also marked the first trimester of her first pregnancy, when she was carrying Prince George.

Officials said Kate’s participation in the welcoming ceremony will be reviewed in the coming weeks.

According to Vanity Fair, the itinerary for the four-day state visit will start off with a welcome for Dr Tan and his wife at the Royal Garden Hotel, next to the royal couple’s Kensington Palace home, followed by a formal state reception with Queen Elizabeth at the Horse Guards Parade ground.

The visit comes ahead of Singapore’s impending 50 years of independence celebrations next year. The royal couple were last in Singapore in 2012 as part of a worldwide tour celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s diamond jubilee. AGENCIES
