AMSTERDAM — Military police have arrested a man and are conducting an investigation at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport after a report of a “suspicious situation”.

Spokesman Alfred Ellwanger says the man was arrested Tuesday night and an operation is ongoing to search an area where buses stop outside the airport’s main terminal.

Ellwanger gave no details on why exactly the man was arrested or his identity. He said the arrest followed “a report of a suspicious situation”, but didn’t elaborate.

Asked if the situation involved a threat to the airport, Mr Ellwanger said, “it’s too early to say.”

Schiphol spokeswoman Danielle Timmer said that flights to and from the airport were not believed to be affected
