SINGAPORE – Barack Obama today (Sept 11) made a speech to the American public outlining his strategies against the Islamic State militants.

Here are the four main points in his game plan:

1. Conduct a systematic campaign of airstrikes alongside Iraqi government forces.

2. Support Iraqi and Kurdish forces fighting terrorists on the ground.

3. Draw on counter-terrorism capabilities such as intelligence and defenses to counter warped ideology and stem the flow of foreign fighters.

4. Provide humanitarian assistance to affected civilians.
