A spokesperson told The Jakarta Post that the flights have been cancelled for “safety reasons”. Other cancelled flights include those from Australian cities Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.

Some travellers on Tigerair Australia and Virgin Australia flights en route to Bali were also left stranded in Darwin, reported The Sydney Morning Herald.

The Transport Ministry’s official Twitter account said the Lombok International Airport was closed from 4.55pm and may reopen at 10am on Tuesday.
