Police arrest Johor father for slamming, stepping on children

JOHOR BARU (Malaysia) — Police on Tuesday (Feb 6) detained a man for allegedly stepping on his two children, aged five and eight, at their home in Segamat, Johor Baru.

JOHOR BARU (Malaysia) — Police on Tuesday (Feb 6) detained a man for allegedly stepping on his two children, aged five and eight, at their home in Segamat, Johor Baru.

In the 7am incident on Monday, the 31-year-old man was said to have grabbed his eight-year-old daughter before slamming her down on the cement floor.

Segamat District police chief Superintendent Raub Selamat said the man had lost his temper before he started hitting his daughter and then, stepping on his five-year-old son.

"His 30-year-old wife, who was at the scene said she was unable to do anything as she feared she would be her husband’s next victim," he said a press conference.

Mr Raub said after the suspect then sent his children to the Segamat Hospital after seeing both of his children crying in pain.

He said the medical officers who treated both victims were suspicious of their injuries and later notified the police about the incident.

He said the suspect, who was unemployed, was detained at 11am on Tuesday to facilitate with investigation.

"This is a serious case as it involves physical and mental abuse to the innocent children and we are still waiting for the children’s full medical report," he said.

Mr Raub said the suspect has been remanded for four days until Friday to assist in the investigation under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001. THE NEW STRAITS TIMES
