Seniors in larger flats deserve to benefit from Silver Support, too

Following Budget 2016, the Government will be giving those aged 65 and above who live in smaller public flats a sum of money quarterly.

My mother, 81, happens to live in a five-room flat, which was allocated to my parents 30 years ago, after resettlement. She worked hard in her younger days, doing vegetable, chicken and pig farming, and has many medical ailments now.

Why should she not benefit from the Silver Support Scheme just because of her flat, which was not her choice but was allocated?

Perhaps the relevant government parties can help answer the queries about this scheme (“Flawed eligibility criteria for Silver Support Scheme”; March 30).
