Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong wrote to French Prime Minister Manuel Valls yesterday to express condolences on behalf of the Government of Singapore.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of so many innocent lives. This is an attack on our shared humanity,” wrote Mr Lee. “Singapore strongly condemns these heinous attacks. We support the French government’s efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and the French people during this difficult time.”
On Saturday, President Tony Tan Keng Yam wrote to French President Francois Hollande to express his sadness on hearing about the attacks. On behalf of the people of Singapore, Dr Tan also extended “our deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones”.
“As France mourns the victims, Singapore stands in solidarity with the French people in this difficult time,” he wrote.
In a letter to the French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Laurent Fabius, Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan said he was “deeply horrified to learn of the brutal terrorist attacks in Paris”.
