KULIM (Malaysia) — A man, who broke into a house in the Malaysian state of Kedah, was caught by villagers and tied to a coconut tree before being handed over to the police.

The thief, in his 20s, was nabbed by the neighbourhood watch committee members about 8am Friday (Nov 17).

They had launched a manhunt for him following complaints by Kampung Karangan villagers.

Committee secretary Che Amat Saad said three villagers claimed their belongings had been stolen between late last night and early Friday morning.

"The victims said their shoes, cooking gas cylinder and some scrap items were missing when they woke up this morning.

"Acting on their information, we carried out a manhunt for the man. He was then spotted riding on a motorcycle in our area," he said.

Suspecting something amiss, the committee members decided to stop the man and check. They found some of stolen items with him.

To prevent the suspect from escaping, they decided to tie him to the coconut tree while waiting for the police.

The photograph of the man has since gone viral on social media.

Meanwhile, the town's police chief Superintendent Ahmad Nasir Jaafar confirmed the incident when contacted. NEW STRAITS TIMES
