At 12.14pm, MH17 departed Amsterdam, bound for Kuala Lumpur. Three hours later, the aircraft crashed outside Hrabove in eastern Ukraine, with debris spread over a 34 sq km area.
July 21, 2014
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak reached an agreement with pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine, for the transfer of the bodies and two black boxes from MH17 to Malaysian representatives.
Sept 9, 2014
The Dutch Safety Board’s preliminary investigation report said the plane broke up in the air probably as a result of structural damage caused by a large number of high-energy objects that penetrated the aircraft from outside.
Nov 16, 2014
Recovery of the wreckage of flight MH17, commissioned by the Dutch Safety Board, began at the crash site.
July 8, 2015
Malaysia, along with Australia, the Netherlands, Belgium and Ukraine, sought to have those responsible for the crash prosecuted before a United Nations tribunal.
October 2015
The Dutch Safety Board’s final report on the cause of the crash is due.
