5566’s Tony Sun Used To Go To A Bank's Water Dispenser To Refill A 2-Litre Bottle Just To Save Money

Taiwanese actor and 5566 leader, Tony Sun, 44, made a recent appearance on father-daughter duo Jacky and Sandy Wu’s talk show Super Followers, on an episode where celebs were invited to spill the beans on “something [about them] that will really surprise people”.

Tony revealed that, back in the day, after he had completed his military service midway through his showbiz career, things weren’t going too great for him. In fact, according to him, there's something called the ‘military service curse’, where “almost all celebs who return from spending two to three years in the military will not see their showbiz career going well [after that]”.

The singer, who has been in the industry for 27 years now, used to stay in a small apartment which was quite a distance from the city and broadcasting station. He'd been earning less than S$1,000 per month, and even though he'd meticulously keep track of his expenses, he simply couldn’t afford to buy drinking water.

But he'd noticed that the bank just downstairs had a water dispenser, so he would go to the bank under the guise of withdrawing cash, and refill an entire two-litre plastic bottle of drinking water instead. And he continued doing this for a good six months.

Oddly, Tony did not elaborate on the show why he did not boil water at home instead.

When asked by the other guests if he felt embarrassed carrying such a huge bottle of 'stolen' water home, Tony said: “When you're poor, you get more thick-skinned and wouldn’t care about these small things.”
