‘70s Taiwanese Actor Jiang Chang Wen, 76, Falls To Death In Apparent Suicide
According to Chang Wen’s family, he was depressed about his illness and took a lot of medication.
‘70s Taiwanese actor Jiang Chang Wen, 76, has died in an apparent suicide.
Chang Wen, popularly known for starring in Taiwanese dramas Yi Lu Xiang Si Qing (一缕相思情) and Gone With My Love, was found dead at the Taipei building where he lived on November 16.
According to reports, police received a call at 11pm from a security guard about a body. When they arrived at the scene, they found that the deceased was Chang Wen.
He is believed to have fallen to his death from his 11th-floor home.
The window of his home was open, and investigations show that there is no sign of foul play, but did not rule out suicide.
He had been depressedAccording to Chang Wen’s family, he had been battling an illness for a long time and was depressed about his condition. He was also on a lot of medication. He even contemplated taking his own life.
They declined to comment on the cause of death.
Good friend Chou Yu was shocked when she learned the tragic newsTaiwanese actress and producer Chou Yu, who starred Chang Wen in several of her dramas, was particularly distraught when she learned about his death from a reporter.
She said that Chang Wen was a kind and gentle man with few but true friends.
They had not seen each other in a long time due to the pandemic and he appeared fine when they met up about four months ago.
"We’re very close. I was thinking of inviting him to my house during Chinese New Year since we hadn’t been in touch for a while,” she said tearfully.
Chang Wen and Hsieh Lingling often starred as a couple on screen.
Chang Wen and former actress Hsieh Lingling were a very popular on-screen couple back int the day. Besides starring in hit dramas Yi Lu Xiang Si Qing (一缕相思情) and Gone With My Love, they also performed the theme songs which are still popular to this day.
After leaving showbiz in the mid ‘80s, Chang Wen joined the finance industry and has since kept a low profile.
