‘80s Singer Fei Xiang Accused By Netizens Of Faking His Location On His Recent Social Media Post

Any fan of Chinese pop music in the ‘80s would be familiar with Taiwanese-American singer Fei Xiang, 61.

With his gray-blue eyes, matinee idol good looks and towering 1.9m-tall height, Fei Xiang, whose his dad is American and mother, Chinese, was one of the biggest pop stars of his time.

Fei Xiang, who also goes by Kris Philips, has since stepped away from the spotlight. However, he often updates his Weibo page to connect with fans and share pics from his daily life.

He made this cute post about his kitties coping with the heatwave

On Tuesday (Jul 19), the singer posted pictures of his adorable cats on Weibo, coupled with a caption about the weather in London, where he is currently based. 

“London is set to break the record for its hottest day in history today! It’s usually very cool in England, so 95% of private houses here (including mine) don’t have air conditioning installed… I’m okay, I’m at home in front of my fan… but my two cats seem to be so warm that they’ve flipped over!” he wrote, attaching a screenshot of the weather report.

However, Chinese netizens discovered that the IP location of Fei Xiang’s post traced back to Shanghai instead of London and quickly assumed that he was lying about his whereabouts. 

Maybe they shouldn't have jumped to conclusions?

A day after that post, Fei Xiang wrote another message to clear up all suspicions.

Though he had taken all the pictures and personally wrote everything that was posted, he had a team in Shanghai upload the content on his account, which explained the IP location tracing back to China.

“I am able to see all the comments you left, and I cherish all the responses I’ve gotten all these years. Please forgive me as I’m not used to taking selfies, so I tend to post those less… I will try my best!” he added.

Many netizens praised him for the thoughtful manner in which he dealt with the accusations.

One such netizen gushed: “Haha I’ve guessed as much! This serious and straightforward post reflects your studious attitude towards your career all these years, there can only be one Fei Xiang in this world.”
