The production team of Chinese drama Marvellous Women has been accused of killing a cat for a scene.
In the 32nd episode of the drama, which was produced by Story of Yanxi Palace creator Yu Zheng, the cat was seen falling off the table and licking blood from its mouth after being 'poisoned'.
Those who watched the scene (see below) couldn't believe that the director or anyone on the team could have taught the cat to act that way unless it was really dying.
Many netizens, who suspected that the cat had been abused and killed, then went online to bombard the drama’s Weibo page asking questions and demanding for an explanation.

The crew quickly responded, sharing that they had used fake blood and that they tied a wire to the cat’s leg and pulled it to make it move the way they wanted.
Netizens were unconvinced by this, and questioned the cat’s whereabouts.
The crew then posted a video of them visiting the cat’s owner, who said that the cat, who is called Mimi, is “doing well and gave birth to a litter of kittens a few months ago”.
When the crew asked to see Mimi, the owner claimed that she “went out two days ago and hasn’t come back yet”.

However, netizens, who really should be investigative journalists, went through behind-the-scenes footage of the cast playing with 'Mimi' and discovered that the cat can't be a new mum because he's male.
As the backlash continues to grow, a netizen claiming to have been an extra on set wrote that the cat was electrocuted for the scene. “They used electric shocks to stimulate those reflexes. They ended up burying [the cat] on the same day, claimed the anonymous netizen.
