Chinese Netizens Blast Gary Chaw’s 14-Year-Old Son After He Updated His Instagram Bio To Show Support For Ukraine

Joe Chaw became a mini celeb after appearing in a China reality show with his Malaysian-born, Taiwan-based dad when he was only 7.

Some Chinese netizens apparently took offence, to say the least, when the 14-year-old son of Malaysian-born, Taiwan-based singer Gary Chaw, Joe Chaw added the Ukrainian flag to his Instagram bio.

Joe became a bona fide celeb after appearing in Where Are We Going? Dad 2 back in 2015, and developed a following in China. When the teenager updated his bio, outraged netizens posted screencaps on Weibo and blasted him for “trying to act like a politician” and “supporting the country when the motherland doesn’t”.

The hate got so intense that Joe is said to have received nasty responses in his Instagram comments section, which could be why he limited the comments on his profile. He has shown no sign of backing down, however, and added #standwithukraine to his bio as well.

Thankfully, more level-headed netizens have taken it upon themselves to tell the others off by saying that the teen has “every right to be against war” and that Joe is “Malaysian, so we shouldn’t subject him to the same guidelines that we impose on our people”.
