Chris Evans Would Love To Reprise Fantastic Four’s Human Torch Over Captain America: "He Didn’t Really Get His Day"

Chris Evans isn't totally done with playing Johnny Storm aka Human Torch.

Chris Evans admits reprising his role as Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four would be an "easier sell" than him playing Captain America again.

Speaking to MTV News, Evans, who played the Human Torch aka Johnny Storm in 2005's Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, said he would give another go as the fiery Marvel superhero.

“God, wouldn’t that be great? Wouldn’t that be great?," he said.  “No, no one’s ever come to me about that. I mean, I don’t exactly look the same anymore. That was 15, almost 20 years ago. Oh my God, I’m old. But I really love that character, but I think… aren’t they doing something now with Fantastic Four?”

Evans made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe  the run of interconnected movies and TV shows produced by Kevin Feige in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. He would portray Steve Rogers again in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier, 2016's Captain America: Civil War, and the four Avengers movies.

Marvel is currently developing a(nother) Fantastic Four reboot — expunge the 2015 version from our collective memories, please! — the first under Marvel Studios after the rights were to them after Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox. John Krasinski debuted in the MCU as Fantastic Four leader Reed Richards aka Mr Fantastic in a cameo appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessSpider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts was originally attached as the director but later dropped out of the project.

On revisiting Johnny Storm, Evans added: “I would love it. That would actually be an easier sell to me than coming back as Cap. You know what I mean? Cap is so precious to me. And you know, I almost don’t wanna disrupt what a beautiful experience that was. But Johnny Storm, I feel like he didn’t really get his day. That was before Marvel really found its footing. So, I loved that role and, you know, who knows.”

Last year, Chris shot down a rumour he was set to return as Captain America. He simply responded via Twitter: "News to me."

Evans also previously shared his excitement to have the "freedom" to pursue other parts. In 2020, he told Backstage: "I absolutely loved my time with Marvel; I already miss it, but there's no denying that it is very exciting to just have complete freedom to pursue whatever my creative appetite wants."

Since hanging up his Captain America spurs in 2019′s Avengers: Endgame, Evans has starred in Rian Johnson’s whodunit Knives Out and Apple TV+‘s crime series Defending Jacob. He's currently in cinemas as the voice of Buzz Lightyear in Lightyear; his next movie, the Russo Brothers-helmedThe Gray Man, drops on Netflix on July 22. — BANG SHOWBIZ
