Well, this year is just shaping up to be full of surprise (happy) announcements, isn’t it?

Hot on the heels of his former BFF Rebecca Lim’s engagement news, Desmond Tan announced today (Dec 7) that he and his long-time girlfriend have finally tied the knot.

“Desmond Tan has married his university sweetheart of 12 years,” reads a statement from The Celebrity Agency. “The couple had a fairytale castle wedding in France and is currently having their honeymoon.”

The 35-year-old also posted a few photos from the event at 5pm today (Dec 7) sharing the good — but completely unexpected, we have to add — news with everyone.

“Once upon a time, I became yours and you became mine. We stay together through tears and laughter because that’s what they call happily ever after,” he wrote, also quoting a verse from the Bible.

However, his new wife’s face has been deliberately concealed in the shots. Desmond has always been extremely private with his relationship (save for this one subtle tribute he posted before 520 Day, which we assumed was for his then-girlfriend, now-wife), explaining that it’s just his “way of protecting [his] loved ones”.

On Sunday (Dec 5), Desmond had shared a photo of himself posing happily at Changi Airport before updating his socials the next day with a shot of him with horses on what appears to be a farm.

While he didn’t specify which country he was visiting, the “bonjour” in his caption gave it away, but in any case, we certainly weren’t expecting him to be returning from the trip as a married man.

In an earlier interview with 8days.sg in August, Desmond told us that he’s “not married” and “not engaged”, but “dating someone”.

He also claimed that their relationship status won’t be changing “that soon”... a statement which has clearly aged like milk (unless he doesn’t consider three to four months “soon”).
