Famous Hong Kong Dessert Chain Hui Lau Shan Opening Two Outlets At Chinatown & Serangoon In 2020
This marks their return to Singapore.
If you have holidayed in Hong Kong, you would have heard of Hui Lau Shan, a famous dessert chain with a distinctive red and yellow signboard. It specialises in mango-based desserts, and claims to be the creator of the city’s popular mango sago dessert soup.
The chain has outlets throughout Asia, in countries like the Philippines and Malaysia. Currently, the nearest HLS outlet for Singaporeans is located at City Square mall in Johor Bahru. Hui Lau Shan also opened a short-lived franchised outlet in Singapore in the noughties, at International Building along Orchard Road. ( Photo source)
Over a decade after it left the Singapore market, the brand is returning — and this time, it’s opening two outlets concurrently. The first comeback outlet (pictured) will open at Serangoon’s Nex mall in January 2020, occupying a unit near Pizza Hut on the third floor. A second branch is in the works at Chinatown Point’s basement food enclave, a few doors down from Uniqlo.
Both outlets are currently still under construction. A notice on the Chinatown Point outlet’s hoarding (pictured) stated that the renovation’s date of completion is January 23, 2020. So we’re guessing the Chinatown outlet will be ready for customers sometime in February.
Hui Lau Shan’s mango specialty desserts, including its famous Mango Sago and Mango Chewy Ball (pictured) with glutinous rice balls.
And the fancily-named Mango Romance, a trio of dessert bowls with mango ice cream, mochi and glutinous rice balls drenched in mango purée.
The chain’s popular Mango Pancake stuffed with fresh cream and mango chunks will also be on the menu.
And since Chinese New Year falls on January 25 next year, the shop will also offer a timely Prosperity Lou Sang with abalone, veggies, apples and... mangoes (of course).
