Here’s A Look At The Various Stickers Eateries Use To Identify Vaccinated Diners

Since the dining ban was lifted on August 10 at F&B establishments, some eateries have turned to the use of stickers to tell vaccinated customers (who’re permitted to sit down and have a meal) apart from unvaccinated ones (who can only tapow and leave).

In case you’ve been living under a rock, here’s a summary of the rules as stated by the Ministry of Health: everyone is able to dine in at hawker centres and coffee shops (kopitiams) in up to groups of two, regardless of vaccination status. But only fully vaccinated folks can eat in up to groups of five at restaurants or food courts (since most food courts are in enclosed, air-conditioned spaces). Folks who have recovered from Covid-19 and have obtained a valid pre-event test exemption notice (a hard copy notice obtained from clinics on this list), possess a negative pre-event test result from a Ministry of Health-approved test provider within the last 24 hours, or children aged 12 and below from the same household, can also dine in at all F&B establishments in up to groups of five. Unvaccinated customers are still able to enter any restaurant — as long as they’re only ordering food for takeaway.

From our experience, fast food joints and food courts form the bulk of eateries that use stickers to tell vaccinated customers apart from unvaxxed ones. We’re guessing it’s because these casual spots are more popular for buying takeaways versus cafes or proper restaurants. And while most of these places use nondescript plain stickers, some eateries have taken the opportunity to up their branding game with hip, customised ones.

  • 2 of 10 The unvaxxed don’t get stickers

Diners get their vaccination statuses checked at the main entrance to major food courts like Kopitiam, Food Junction and Food Republic before being issued a sticker, says the reps for these brands. Vaccinated patrons dining in are required to display these stickers in a prominent position for staff to identify them while they enjoy their meal. Unvaccinated patrons don’t get a sticker, though they are still allowed to order food and drinks for takeaway.

Other eateries like fast food joints that use stickers also employ the same system.

Here’s a look at some of them.

  • 3 of 10 Shake Shack

“Fine casual” American burger joint Shake Shack has rolled out the sticker version of its minimalist-hip white-and-green burger logo for vaxxed folks across its six outlets — including its latest Insta-worthy 102-seater in Great World City. The chic sticker is rather tiny and can be passed off as a T-shirt’s logo — it’s still kinda cool, though. In other news, the brand continues its expansion plans with an upcoming seventh outlet at Gardens By the Bay.

  • 4 of 10 McDonald’s

The Golden Arches and repurposed V-for-victory hand sign come together cheerily to identify vaccinated diners munching on Ben Yeo’s Hainanese Chicken burger in-store, with a bold “I’m fully vaxed!” sticker. While the standard spelling should be ‘vaxxed’ — we think the sticker looks cute, large and colourful enough so their staff can’t miss it.

  • 5 of 10 KFC

While KFC has opted to use a small, generic yellow sticker to single out vaxxed diners, do note that not all of their branches have reopened for dining in even if you’re jabbed. Five outlets remain takeaway-only due to their higher takeaway sales profile, says the brand’s PR rep.

  • 6 of 10 Hawkers’ Street

Ion Orchard’s Hawkers’ Street is hawker centre only in theme — which means that only vaccinated diners are allowed to dine in at this slightly atas food court, while the unvaccinated must get their food to go ( someone even brought a thermal cooker on opening day). Incidentally, their eye-catching red stickers for vaccinated customers look very much like McDonald’s.

  • 7 of 10 Jollibee

We visited the Novena Square 2 outlet on Aug 12 for some piping hot Chickenjoy in-store and got slapped with a plain yellow sticker and the date written on it. Strictly no-frills.

  • 8 of 10 Popeyes

Another fried chicken joint, Popeyes, also opts for the functional plain circular sticker (pink this time) plus date combo.

  • 9 of 10 Food Junction & Food Republic

The spokesperson for Food Republic and Food Junction, which are owned by BreadTalk Group, tells us they’ve replaced stickers with paper wristbands (the colour changes daily) as of August 16 to better facilitate the identification of vaccinated patrons by staff members. Kinda like going to a club — remember those bygone days?

  • 10 of 10 Domino’s tags their staff with badges instead

Pizza chain Domino’s doesn’t use any stickers to identify diners’ vaccination statuses. Instead, non-vaccinated customers are requested to wait outside the outlets until their takeaway orders are ready, or use their zero contact takeaway and delivery services.

Instead, the eatery has rolled out badges in the brand’s signature red, white and blue colour scheme to identify frontline Domino’s staff that have been fully-vaccinated. “Domino’s Pizza Singapore highly encourages all staff to get Covid-19 vaccinations to protect themselves and their loved ones. [The badge] acknowledges staffs’ support for the vaccination programme,” their spokesperson tells us.
