The Miss Hong Kong 2021 finals were held on on Sunday (Sep 12), and hot favourite Fabienne Kwan, who is Hongkong actor Eddie Kwan’s daughter, failed to make the top three.

In the end, Sabrina Mendes was crowned Miss Hong Kong, while Carina Leung and Kristy Shaw were named first runner-up and second runner-up respectively. Fabienne, on the other hand, was placed in the top five.

Former school teacher Fabienne, 26, was touted as shoo-in for the crown by the media since the start of the competition, with many saying that her being related to Eddie gave her an unfair advantage over the other contestants.

Eddie even performed on stage with Fabienne at the semi-finals, a controversial move that did not sit well with some netizens.

Eddie was also at the finals, though he didn't perform this time. It's said that the actor was seated in the audience up until top 3 were announced. When it was revealed that Fabienne failed to make the cut, and the actor was seen heading for the exit without speaking to the media.

Netizens have since accused Eddie of being a “sore loser” after his daughter “failed to live up to expectations”.

When asked about her dad's hasty exit, Fabienne said, “I don’t think he's disappointed [in me]. Everyone has to leave the venue anyway. He was just going home to get ready to celebrate with me.”
