Eric Suen And Wife Accused Of “Putting On A Show” After Buying Drinks For Healthcare Workers Then Giving An Interview To Talk A
bout It

Well, at least the healthcare workers got a free drink out of this whole thing, right?

Is this a case of a good deed gone wrong? '90s pop idol Eric Suen, 49, who moved to China two years ago, was recently spotted buying drinks for healthcare workers with his wife, Hongkong actress Macy Chan, 41, in Guangzhou.

However, netizens didn’t take too kindly to his… kind act.

As healthcare workers had to work outdoors in full protective gear despite temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius, Eric and his wife, along with eight of their staff, were seen handing out cold drinks to them.

All publicity is good publicity.

Eric later accepted an interview from a TV station, saying: “To be exposed to the sun and the rain, especially in summer, is really not easy. So we merely decided to give them a cold drink in this hot weather, in hopes that it will relieve the heat, and prevent heatstroke. It’s been really tough on all the healthcare workers who’ve been serving us."

Macy also put in her two cents: “My parents are from Guangzhou, so Guangzhou feels like home to me.”

Sounds nice and all, right? However, netizens were very skeptical about Eric and Macy’s true intentions.

They caused quite a fair bit of buzz, it appears.

Some pointed out that other celebs like Evergreen Mak, Anita Yuen, and Pinky Cheung had done the same thing, and yet, they didn’t see the need to publicise their actions through a televised interview.

A couple added that it seemed like Eric and Macy were just “putting on a show” for the cameras.

However, others were a little less cynical.

“Even if it’s an act, they’re still doing a good thing,” one wrote, while another added: “Some celebs can’t even be bothered to put on an act.”
