Famous Cafe Kitsune Opens In S’pore, Its Staff Tells Us We “Must Do” This One Thing There
The cafe is the F&B offshoot of popular French fashion label Maison Kitsune.

There are no lack of cafes in Singapore, but the latest cafe to reach our shores is pretty unusual. Called Cafe Kitsune, the famed international chain is the F&B offshoot of popular French fashion label Maison Kitsune, which is named after the Japanese word for ‘fox’.

It officially opened its first Singapore outlet today (Dec 1) at Capitol Singapore, after setting up branches in stylish cities like Paris, Tokyo, Seoul and New York.

The look
The 40-seat cafe here offers both indoor and al-fresco seating. It follows the same French aesthetics as its other sister cafes, except the Singapore outlet has local touches like plants and Peranakan-inspired floor tiling.

Cafe Kitsune’s outdoor seating area can fit around 12 pax.

The merch
There is also a selection of Cafe Kitsune-themed merchandise for sale, which comprises items like hoodies, T-shirts, tote bags, keychains and reusable coffee cups. Coffee beans from Cafe Kitsune’s own roastery in Okayama, Japan, are also sold here (from $15 for a 100g bag).

The menu
The cafe serves a selection of cakes, pastries and hot and cold beverages, with prices averaging $12 for a cake and from $4.50 for a cup of espresso. There is also an exclusive-to-Singapore Chilli Chocolate Tart ($12) and Yuzu Pistachio Strawberry Entremet ($13).
There is no in-house kitchen here, and the only savoury items on the menu are sandos (from $13 for the Egg Sando) and quiches ($16 for a smoked salmon quiche).

What does the Fox say?
When 8days.sg dropped by, we were encouraged to get a plate of the cafe’s signature offering: fox-shaped shortbread cookies ($4 each), available in four flavours like matcha, chocolate, sesame and butter.

The critters arrived on a plate, and we were about to bite into a fox when a smiling waitstaff told us: “Wait, you have to do this thing first!”
What, what, we asked in a panic. As it turns out, it’s imperative that you snap a ‘gram-worthy shot of your $4 cookie. According to the staff, the slinky shape of the fox allows you to hook its little paws on the edge of a coffee cup so it looks like it’s clinging on. Super cute.

Soggy foxes
Although they became soggy-pawed, the shortbread is pretty tasty after being dipped in our Sesame Latte ($7.50).
Check out some of the other cakes you can order at the cafe:

Strawberry Shortcake, $13

Paris-Brest, $12

Chilli Chocolate Tart, $12

Yuzu Pistachio Strawberry Entremet, $13

Egg Sando, $12
Cafe Kitsune is at #01-11 Capitol Singapore, 13 Stamford Rd. Open daily 10am to 10pm.
